About Dan

Dan Whitaker is a trial lawyer who represents clients in trust, estate, and fiduciary litigation, as well as complex commercial disputes. His practice focuses on will contests, trust disputes, undue influence and fraud claims, and breach of fiduciary duty actions. He regularly represents individuals and families in litigation involving inheritance rights, fiduciary relationships, and contested estate planning documents.

In addition to his contested trust and estates practice, Dan represents businesses, property owners, and individuals in commercial litigation involving contracts, business torts, partnership and shareholder disputes, and real estate disagreements. He has represented clients through jury trials, bench trials, injunction proceedings, administrative hearings, and appeals in state and federal courts.

Before joining Pepper Meeks & Whitaker, Dan spent five years with the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office, where he represented the State in a broad range of litigation and regulatory matters involving consumer protection, taxation, and public utilities. In that role, he advised senior state leadership and gained substantial courtroom experience early in his career.

Dan grew up on his family’s horse farm in Marshall County, Tennessee, and is an eighth-generation Tennessean. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a concentration in International Business. While at Tennessee, he was a member of the Global Leadership Scholars program, worked for a Department of Defense-focused consulting firm and think tank, and interned for a Member of Parliament while living in London.

Dan earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law with a concentration in Advocacy and Dispute Resolution. He was elected by the faculty to the Order of Barristers.

Dan is active in the Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations and the Economic Club of Nashville, serves as the chair of the Nashville Bar’s Business Law Section, and is a parishioner at St. George's Episcopal Church.
